Our Programme approach is to strengthen national efforts to prevent and manage leprosy through innovative pilot surveillance, control, and care interventions that utilize technology to gather and analyze data. Aggregated Data to be used to help inform and shape national policies on leprosy eradication.
We seek to help secure funds for pilot projects, in diverse geographic regions. Key aspects of GBL’s approach also include building professional teams, conducting operational research, fostering public communication and engagement, and prioritizing the inclusion of individuals affected by leprosy in all activities.
Note that there exists a wide inconsistency in data on leprosy cases in India. The COVID-19 pandemic further exacerbated the problem as annual case registration dropped by 48% in 2020-21, 40% in 2021-22 and 18% in 2022-23 compared to 1.26+ lakhs reported in 2019. This is leading to continued disease transmission, and more child and disability cases due to non/ delayed detection.
