Challenges

In the present Indian context, efforts to control leprosy continue through the National Leprosy Eradication Programme and various non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The government and NGOs continue to provide free Multi-Drug- Therapy (courtesy Novartis) to all leprosy patients and promote awareness and education to reduce the stigma and discrimination.

Despite these efforts, challenges remain in reaching marginalized populations, ensuring early detection and treatment, and addressing social and economic factors that contribute to the spread of leprosy. Continued investment in research, prevention, treatment and care is essential to achieve the goal of reduction in India.
