About us

GoodBye Leprosy (GBL), established in 2013, is an alliance of civil society organizations committed to eradicating leprosy in India and supporting those affected by the disease.

Leprosy in India is far from over. registered worldwide. Government declared that leprosy was no longer a public health problem in 2005. This is different from ‘no-leprosy’. As a consequence resulted in reduced government and public focus; funding; and support.

Since 2005 India has had over two million new cases and over three million people continue living with various forms of disability due to leprosy in India and need a continuum of care.

We aim to strengthen national efforts in case detection, treatment, rehabilitation and inclusion of people affected by bringing together civil society organizations, government agencies and the community. For this, with members of the Alliance, we shall devise pilot interventions with the aim to scale helping to achieve zero-leprosy and rebuild lives of people affected.

Leprosy is recognized at the highest global levels, including the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our work aligns with several SDGs, including ending poverty (SDG 1), hunger (SDG 2), and promoting health (SDG 3), education (SDG 4), gender equality (SDG 5), economic growth (SDG 8), and reducing inequality (SDG 10).
In India, our work intersects with various government policies and development programs, particularly under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Key CSR areas include eradicating hunger, poverty, and malnutrition; promoting healthcare, education, and vocational skills; empowering women and supporting marginalized groups; developing rural and slum areas; and managing relief and rehabilitation.
